This long-awaited Bhagavad Gita commentary is based on the
highly acclaimed Song of God: The Bhagavad Gita, translated by Swami Prabhavananda and Christopher Isherwood. It was culled from over 200 of the swami’s classes, delivered from 1942–1962 at the Vedanta Society
of Southern California.

Swami Prabhavananda was a charismatic speaker, and his Gita
classes used to fill the Vedanta centers’ halls wherever he spoke. A
disciple of Swami Brahmananda, the spiritual son of Ramakrishna,
the swami had associated with Sarada Devi and many of the other
direct disciples of Sri Ramakrishna. Therefore, his Gita commentary
incorporates some of their firsthand teachings or personal life
incidents that help to illustrate the deep philosophical truths of the
Gita—and thus draw us deeper into our own personal study of this
spiritual classic.

footnoted) and personal, as though the swami is talking directly to
